About Your Eye Examination

Eye examination at Hazel Smith Opticians

Eye examination at Hazel Smith Opticians is not just about testing your sight for glasses and contact lenses. Our optometrists take their time to examine your eyes comprehensively, including looking for signs of eye diseases and binocular vision problems.

A regular eye examination is important as it can detect early signs of potentially sight-threatening conditions and general health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure. We strongly believe that good vision and healthy eyes lead to a better quality of life.

Children's Eye Care

Children under 16 are entitled to a FREE NHS sight test. The earlier the problem is detected, the better the treatment outcome. Therefore, we recommend regular sight tests for ALL children, especially if there is a family history of squint or lazy eye.

Our optometrists can carry out a sight test even if your child is not able to read or talk.

If it's found that your child needs help to see clearly, we offer a great range of eyewear and contact lenses for children. If we find that your child is short-sighted, we also offer Myopia management contact lenses which aim to slow the progression of the condition.

OCT eye scan
3D OCT Eye Scan

We are proud to offer this new method of screening for key eye conditions such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and diabetic retinopathy.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) allows us to see the individual layers of the retina that is not visible during your normal eye test. This allows early detection of eye diseases and hence better management and prompt referral for treatment should this be required.
